Six healthy facts about Peaches – “The Persian apple”

Don’t you love when a favorite food, or fruit in this case, has an enormously amount of health benefits?
Like peaches for example. Sure, they are not on my Ketogenic “Do” list. more on the “Don’t” but I still think they are worth mentioning just for their looks. And there are a lot of health benefits in peaches just like coconut and the cacao bean for example.

It is love at first sight for me when it is season for peaches.

Here are six healthy facts about peaches

  1. A large peach has fewer than 70 calories and contains 3 grams of fiber. It’s also a good source of Vitamin A which is essential for night vision and Vitamin C.
  2. Contains no Saturated fats
  3. Peaches contains iron. Iron is needed for red blood cell formation.
  4. Prevent Caries with peaches since it contains levels of flouride
  5. Peaches contains healthy promoting antioxidants like antioxidants such as lutein, zea-xanthin and ß-cryptoxanthin that helps your body prevent pre-aging
  6. Peaches are just as good as plums if you are constipated (good to know right)

The Peach is thought to have originated from China where the Persians in their turn introduced it to the Romans. The Romans had no name for this golden fruit and named it “The Persian Apple” in Latin. The Romans liked it so much, almost as much as I do, that they introduced it to the Europeans and was transported with Columbus to the Americas.

And there you have it. A world voyage of the great Persian Apple.

Peaches are a great addition to salads, desserts and as a side to a main course. Split the peaches in half and put them on the barbeque for a few momens. Delicious! Or make a hearty peach Pie! Yum!
