Can Jackfruit protect you from cancer?
Jackfruit is superfood
Another popular fruit in Asia is the Jackfruit. I am not a very big fan of it but for many it is a part of everyday life.
The fruit is a giant and is the largest fruit that grows on trees. The flesh is hard to medium hard. Something between rubber and hard apple depending on the type and origin.
Originating from South America and India it is now cultivated throughout Asia. I am still in Vietnam and here they are sold in almost every foodstall. They are massive and can be up to 90 cm long, 50 cm in diameter and weigh up to 36 kg. The Jackfruit has become known as a superfruit because of its many health benefits. And they are many.
Jackfruit contains a high amount of catbohydrates and calories but has no cholesterol content. Having quite a big amount of sucrose and fructose it is a real energy boost without the guilt of a cheat meal.
High levels of pottasium which is needed to balance sodium levels and your electrolyte levels. This could lower blood pressure and minimize the risk for stroke or heart attack.
Jackfruit also has high levels of antioxidants, phytonutrients and flavonoid and has been said to be a highly efficient to protect from cancer. Antioxidants keeps the free radicals in our body from turning cells into cancer cells.
So eating Jackfruit may prevent cancer. It is said to prevent colon, lung and oral cavity cancer.
It also improves your eye health and digestion and improve you immune system in general. All in one fruit.
Do not overeat though since the Jackfruit is laxative.
I am not a big fan of the Jackfruit but I am very fascinated by it. Because it has so many benefits I may pick one up and buy it at my next visit to the market.
